Nature’s Beauty at Phnom Koulen (or Koolen) National Park

An extension of the Dangrek Mountains, Phnom Koulen (or Koolen) National Park resides towards the south of the Danrek Mountains. This hill served the purpose for quarrying sites in the area during the construction of Angkor. The lush scenery of the Phnom Koulen (or Koolen) National Park is truly a splendidly scenic picture for the nature enthusiast. An abundance of trees stretch out far from the hilltops covering the surrounding hills with a green blanket of vegetation. There is no urban development in sight and only unspoilt nature can be seen.

A magnificent waterfall resides at the top of the hill with a picnic area. Located upstream from the waterfall, one will be able to discover some temple ruins, with ancient inscriptions carved in the rock at the top of the waterfall. Don't be too surprised if you find some more modern inscriptions as well amidst the rock left by recent travelers to the area. The waterfall is multistage with many levels that break the flow of water along the river, resulting in some picturesque waterfalls. The main waterfall stands at a height of 11 meters, though sadly at present, a cost of at least US $ 20 must be paid to get a ride upstream with transportation of your own, though if a motor bike ride is preferred the fee is reduced to US $ 10.

Koulen (or Koolen) National Park lies in the north of Cambodia in the province of Siem Reap, and if you are planning to stay in the area, Siem Reap accommodation is available at many a luxury Hotel in Siem Reap providing the finest in comfort and convenience.
